The review by vtangerine is so out of line with my experiences that I wonder whether s/he reviewed the wrong company. I've never known Richmond's to be dishonest, sloppy, or not stand behind their work. Like others, I've had minor problems fixed for free and been told nothing was wrong, the latter having happened to me only one other time in over 40 years of car ownership! (Toriumi Auto Repair in Watsonville CA, another skillful, honest mechanic.) I went to Doug about four years ago on the recommendation of a friend who's been a customer more than 20 years; we are both very happy with him and his crew.
Richmond Auto is a wonderful shop. Helpful; courteous; scrupulously honest; hyper-competent. Can't say enough good about. (Wish I could give more than 5 stars.)
I have an old foreign car that needed a lot of repairs and I knew it was going to be expensive to fix. I decided to go to Richmond auto after hearing good things. Doug was pleasant to speak with, as were the other mechanics I spoke to briefly at the shop. They worked on my car all day, and even stayed later than they usually do to finish it for me. When it came time to pay my bill, I was shocked. It was way less than I expected! They let me come inside and look under my vehicle as they explained and pointed out all of the things they fixed, and what might need attention. They didn't try to sell me anything that was unnecessary, and actually advised against spending money on repairs I didn't actually need. I was extremely satisfied with my visit and the work that was performed, and this is now my go to repair shop for all of my families vehicles.
Doug and his crew provide a top notch service, at fair rates. We've taken our company vehicle to his shop for a while now, and wish we started sooner. Doug (Richmond, the owner) handles all of the customer interaction, and he's very down-to-earth and easy to understand. His guys are very efficient, meaning we can have our vehicle back on the road as soon as possible. Doug will also tell us straight whether something really needs to be addressed or not, saving us from unnecessary repairs that other shops would try to pad their bill with.
EDIT: Seven years later, I still love Richmond Auto. And I have never been treated badly because I'm female--every woman knows what I mean!
The best repair shop and the only one we love and trust. The service and the care that gets put into our vehicle makes my family and I feel safe every time we get into it. He is an honest man who cares about every customer he sees. He always tells you the truth about what your vehicle needs and or is going to need soon. The hourly rate is high but well worth every penny. Thanks always Doug.
